Girls around the world. Ages 18 and older. If you want to learn Arabic, if you have a month or more to spare, if you want to immerse yourself into the culture, learning Classical Standard Arabic in the crossroads of the Arabic world, the historical Roman, Greek, Persian and Ottoman Empires, well look no further. Learning Arabic in the country of Jordan, particularly in the rural western highlands of Al-Salt, and particularly the township of Zay will be an experience you will cherish forever.
Our home is made up of 2 floors, located in the town of Zay, approximately 3,000 feet above sea level. We have accommodations for up to 4 girls to reside and study with one or more female teachers on a monthly basis, on the second floor of our home. 2 girls will share a modern western styled bedroom, each with its own full western styled bathroom. The second floor flat has 2 spacious bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, a classroom, a full kitchen, a family room with a large screen television and a beautiful 2nd floor balcony. Your balcony overlooks the historical city of Ajlun and the Fort of Saladin to the north, the historical Roman city of Jerash to the northeast and the West bank to the northwest. Residing downstairs is your female teacher and her two sisters, all of whom will make you feel like family.
Your day will start with a homemade Jordanian-style breakfast each day. You will then proceed to have a total of 2 hours Arabic lesson that day, not including homework assignments. You will break for a Jordanian lunch, which will also be homemade and provided shortly after mid-day. You will have Arabic lessons five days a week, from Sunday through Thursday. Fridays and Saturdays will be for you to relax, practice more Arabic at your leisure and/or visit the many historical landmarks throughout the beautiful country of Jordan. Your host family will help you and accompany you with your travels throughout the country.
The cost of the program is 1,500 Jordanian Dinar per female student per month. That includes 10 hours of Arabic lessons per week for a total of 40 hours over the course of a month; homemade breakfast and lunch every day; and housing on the second floor flat of our home. Utilities (electricity and water) are included.
Our Arabic language curriculum for non-native speakers is customized for each student at varying levels. Your teacher will teach you the Arabic language in Arabic. We believe there is most benefit in learning a new language in the language itself. Beginner level students will start with the alphabets and proper pronunciation while adding new vocabulary words each day and learning basic grammar skills. Intermediate and advanced level students will focus on developing reading and writing skills while increasing their fund of vocabulary words and proper usage.
